I followed the course Cardiovascular Epidemiology. My PhD is about cardiovascular effects of an HIV infection, and that triggered me to know more about the global perspectives on cardiovascular disease. I liked the clear format of the course, the instructive lectures, and last but not least, the interaction with my peers and the course-coordinator on the online forum. The interaction with other students was facilitated by the assignments as we had to respond to each other’s comments. I was surprised by the fact that the course included a presentation and an online debate. It was like I participated in a life course instead of distance learning, but still with the benefits of distance learning!
How did you like online learning?
I followed two courses offered by Elevate so far, and I really like the concept. Part of my PhD work is abroad, and e-learning gives me the opportunity to follow courses at the moment and the place that suits me best. I would definitively recommend distant learning to everyone who has inflexible worktimes or who works or lives in another country. It creates the opportunity to participate in courses whereas this otherwise would not have been possible.
The course offered a nice framework on the global situation of cardiovascular diseases, underlying mechanisms, relevance for society as well as an overview of different research area’s and the latest developments. I can use this knowledge to put the research I am doing in a global perspective. I would definitively recommend this course to everybody who is working in cardiovascular research or in public health as it broadens your perspective on a leading disease from various points of view.
