I will recommend this course to others because it really gives you a lot of techniques on how to prepare presentations and present it confidently. This is really important for persons who have to defend their thesis or dissertation and those have to make presentations regularly. Peer and teacher’s feedback also makes the course very good for young professionals because its easier to understand feedback given to you by your peers and also learn specific ways of improving your performance. The course has definitely been useful. I can give a several examples of tips I learnt. I have learnt ways to get my audience to listen to me by using a hook (eg a story, anecdote or statement of fact) and how to avoid distracting body languages like too much hand gesturing and swaying from front to back when talking. I have also learnt how to make powerpoint presentations that are catchy and simple because I am the most important visual aid so my goal is to get the audience to focus more on ME, not the slides. most important takehome message for me was practice, practice and practice again!
Distance learning
So far, I have participated in 4 online courses ( two of which were on the elevate platform). I love online learning because its gives me the opportunity to learn from the comfort of my home and acquire rich knowledge from a mix of people from different continents and backgrounds. Its not like the traditional classroom setting so I can read and catch up on my course and assignments at my own convenience. This is really important for me because I am a full time working mum and wife. Sometimes when I am with my computer, my kids are seating beside me playing with their toys. I will recommend this method of learning to working professionals or students who want to acquire further training. Its useful for those of us who live in Africa, who cannot afford time and money to travel abroad to get good quality training in the international setting.
